Obituary of Sherron Lynne Vance

Please share a memory of Sherron to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sherron Lynne Vance, 81, of Virden, IL passed away at 5:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, just six months and three days following death of the love of her life, Eldon. Sherron was born November 12, 1942, in Avon, IL to Rev. Rodney W. and Evelyn Ruberg. She married Eldon Vance on November 25, 1962, in Chesterfield, IL. She is survived by daughter Gayle (Bill) Fornshell of Arthur, IL, and son Scott (Christine) Vance of Virden, IL. Grandchildren Zach (Heather) Smith of Mattoon, IL, Caleb (Whitney) Smith of Sullivan, IL, Abbey (Nolan) Bone of Shelbyville, IL, Chelsea Vance of Chatham, IL, Hunter Vance of Charleston, IL, Haily Vance of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Bryan Vance of Girard, IL. GREAT grandchildren, Owen, Olivia, Ethan, Sophia, and Cooper Smith, Blaine Bone, and Elijah Vance. Brothers Rodney C. (Marilyn) Ruberg, Joe (Pam) Ruberg and sister Dee Plunket. Many loved nieces and nephews and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon, her parents Rev. Rodney W. and Evelyn Ruberg, father and mother in law Vernon and Goldie Vance, brothers-in-law Gerald and Loren Vance, sisters-in-laws Kay Vance and Dorothy Vance, and niece Vicki. Following graduation, Sherron worked at the Farmers and Merchants bank in Carlinville, IL - a fitting job for someone who loved people and never knew a stranger. After moving to Virden and starting a family, she went back to work at the Farmers and Merchants bank in Virden. After retiring from the bank, she went full time into selling Longaberger baskets, which she thrived at. The family joke was, “if something was missing, look in the Longaberger room” as they had a bedroom dedicated to the many baskets she had won or to Eldon’s dismay, the baskets she had bought just in case someone may need that “particular basket.” As the Longaberger craze started to fade, she and Eldon began traveling more and loved going to their winter home in Florida. She then found her true calling, some years later, as their church began a clothes closet for people in need. Sherron was eager to serve at Grace Place, where over the years she helped many people. Not only did she help with clothing, but more importantly with love which she gladly gave to those who needed it, along with sharing the love of Jesus with them. As her dementia progressed, she was no longer able to serve in a leadership capacity. Sherron loved everyone she came in contact with especially her family, church family, and friends. She will be greatly missed by many. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 at Grace Southern Baptist Church, 302 W. Wright St. Virden, IL. The family will receive friends from 9-11am. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11 am with Pastor Rodney C. Ruberg and Pastor Joe Ruberg officiating. Per her wishes, cremation has been completed. Memorials are suggested to Grace Southern Baptist Church, 302 W. Wright St. Virden, IL. Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Girard is assisting the family.
