Carl Eugene "Gene" FitzgeraldOctober 24, 1929 - March 02, 2010 Gene Fitzgerald
80, of Girard, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born Thursday, October 24, 1929 in Cisne, IL, the son of Carl A. and Mildred Alice ( Minor) Fitzgerald. He married Rosemary Eileen Rucker at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard on June 11, 1949. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last summer. Gene worked for Girard Elevator before working for his brother Leroy at Fitzgerald Elevator Repair. After Leroys passing, he became partners with his nephew Dave Fitzgerald and their company became Grainland Construction. He retired in December of 1994. Survivors: Wife, Rosemary Eileen Fitzgerald, Daughter, Linda Upp (Randy) of Girard, IL, Daughter, Donna Dugger (George) of Girard, IL, Daughter, Jeannine Goss (Richard) of Plainfield, IL, Daughter, Elaine Edge (Darrell) of Hannibal, MO, 9 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, Sister, Helen Gardner (Speck) of Girard, IL, Sister, Maggie Gravelle (Wayne) of Girard, IL. He was preceded in death by Parents, Brothers; Leroy, Francis "Fuzz" and infant Bobby Fitzgerald and Sister Faye Nichols. Gene was an avid Cardinal fan. He enjoyed his daily walk and talking with friends and neighbors he met along the way. He loved all children and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Information Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, March 4 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 5, 2010 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home with Father Daren J. Zehnle officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery.
