Thomas Martin Harbaugh

Tom M. Harbaugh

67, of Palmyra, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 27, 2011 at his residence in Palmyra, IL.

He was born on May 22, 1944 to Verner and Rosemary (Roemer) Harbaugh in Alton, IL. He graduated from Northwestern High School, class of 1962 and later graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, class of 1971. Thomas married Sue Ellyn Tongate on November 21, 1967 in Palmyra.

Thomas was a Vietnam veteran serving four years in the US Navy. He worked for Dickey-John Corp. in Auburn, IL for 13 years. Thomas retired from the IL Dept. of Corrections in 2006. He was Sgt. of Arms for Palmyra American Legion Post #1034 and a member of the Chatham VFW Post #4763. He loved to fish, golf, hunt and cook.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Sue Ellyn; mother, Rosemary (Roemer) Harbaugh of Bloomington, IL; son, Eric Harbaugh (Sarah) of Palmyra; daughter, Wendy Turner (Wade) of Waverly, IL; 3 granddaughters, Alyssa and Alicyn Harbaugh and Madison Charles; grandson - Gabe Rothe; 2 brothers, Paul Harbaugh (Jo) of Normal, IL, Mark Harbaugh (Connie) of Mohomet, IL and a sister, Verna Kay (Harold) Rich of Greenfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by his father, Verner Harbaugh and brother, Gene Harbaugh.

Funeral Information

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday December 31, 2011 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Jim Percy officiating. A visitation will follow beginning at noon at the Modesto Community Building.

Memorials may be made to the Palmyra American Legion Post #1034 or Memorial Tree at Terry Park Golf Course.
